Description

The Venn 5028 S is the most direct way onto a Venn carbon rim for road and gravel. Its 5028 TCD SL rims are 50mm deep and 28mm wide inside, sized for 35 to 50mm tyres, laced with Sapim CX-Ray bladed steel spokes, 24 front and rear, to Venn RH05SL ratchet hubs on sealed steel bearings, for 1270g. The rims carry no clear coat, in gloss, matte or 25k filament wound.

WIDE ENOUGH FOR GRAVEL, DEEP ENOUGH FOR THE ROAD

At 36mm across its widest point the 5028 rim carries a wide tyre cleanly, and the 28mm internal bed lets you run it at low pressure for grip and comfort on loose ground. Fifty millimetres of depth keeps it quick on tarmac. The hooked bead takes tubeless and clincher tyres alike, so one wheelset covers the road ride and the gravel race.

RATCHET HUBS ON SEALED STEEL BEARINGS

The Venn RH05SL hub engages through a ratchet across the full tooth face rather than through a pair of pawls, so power goes in the moment you load the pedals. It turns on sealed steel bearings, two in the front hub and four in the rear, which any bike shop can replace, on 7075-T6 aluminium axles in 6061-T6 aluminium bodies. Center Lock rotor mount, 100mm front and 142mm rear hub spacing, with a Shimano HG, SRAM XDR or Campagnolo N3W freehub.

UNCOATED FINISH, YOUR CHOICE

The 5028 S carries no clear coat, whichever surface you choose: gloss, matte, or the 25k filament-wound pattern. Leaving the coating off keeps weight off the rim perimeter, where it costs the most in rotational inertia, and it leaves the quality of the underlying carbon structure on open display with nowhere to hide. Gloss and matte weigh the same; the 25k filament-wound surface adds 25 g per rim. All three cost the same.

Sapim CX-Ray Spokes

The 5028 C SL saves 80g with carbon aero blade spokes and S&S ceramic bearings, for 1190g. The 5028 HE1 runs Venn's own Helix-01 hubs with 72-tooth helical engagement, for 1380g. Take the S for value and steel spokes any shop can service, the C SL for the lightest set, and the HE1 for instant engagement under power.
